After purchasing and installing an HVAC system, most business owners hope they never have to use commercial services again until they need to buy a new system. But this is almost impossible, as commercial services, even for routine maintenance, are necessary to ensure proper and long-term operation of your HVAC.
Here are two ways you can avoid an expensive HVAC repair bill by conducting necessary maintenance:
#1: Check the Condenser
The condenser is the part of the HVAC system that sits outside your building. As a result, it faces exposure to the elements and is subject to whatever Mother Nature has to offer. So before you run your heater this winter, check the condenser, especially if you have a heat pump. If there is mud, dirt, leaves, sticks or other debris on the outside of the condenser, carefully remove them. If you don’t, the condenser may get damaged when it turns on.
#2: Clean Your Air Filter
If an air filter is dirty and needs cleaning or replacing, it will probably result in two things. First, it won’t be able to clean your indoor air as it should. This can be a serious issue if you or others suffer from allergies. Second, it can result in higher energy bills when your HVAC’s air handler works harder to move air through the dirty air filter.
In some limited situations, a particularly clogged air filter can cause severe damage to your HVAC system. If not enough air can flow through the air filter, the air handler may work much harder, resulting in premature motor failure. It can also allow dirt and dust to flow through the air handler, ductwork and other HVAC components. These contaminants can interfere with the proper operation of the HVAC system, such as circuit boards, motors, and bearings.
If you can’t complete these preventative maintenance tasks yourself, using commercial services may be worthwhile. To take advantage of commercial services, contact our team at Smoak’s Comfort Control before it gets too cold.
